Who is Nadia?
Nadia White is different from her great grandmother Josie in innumerable ways: she is more than twice as old as the girl who left Oklahoma; unfettered by marriage or children. Both women enjoyed friends and family and games. They seem to share, however, a certain willingness to do things the hard way and find it funny. Like Josie, Nadia takes to the outdoors with an athleticism that requires solitary staying power. Josie’s obituary notes that she “climbed ever worthwhile peak in southeastern Alaska.” It is that spirit that Nadia intends to follow when the actual route of Josie’s relocations become unclear or, through modernity, unworthy. This blog is a report of travels in the spirit and footsteps of Josephine White.
